Tess Gerritsen’s real given name is Terry, but when her first books were published, she thought the name had a "male" ring to it, and decided to call herself Tess. Gerritsen is a general practitioner with an extraordinary literary career. She embarked on it with romance thrillers on low budget publishing houses, then made her breakthrough with medical thrillers, and finally became an internationally best-selling and awarded writer owing to her crime thriller novels. In general, she mixes components of all three subgenres into her novels.
